Harold Wareham

Harold L. Wareham is a resident of Newfoundland and a senior member of the business community in Atlantic Canada. He holds Bachelor Degrees in Arts and Commerce and is a Chartered Accountant.

Mr. Wareham has had extensive experience in various industry sectors. In 1964 Mr. Wareham joined Eastern Provincial Airways Ltd. following its purchase of Maritime Central Airways. Both these companies were key providers of air service to Newfoundland and Labrador and the Eastern Arctic, being prime contractors in the development of the DEW Line and Pine Tree Lines. During the 50’s and early 60’s, Eastern Provincial also developed and provided air services on the coast of Greenland for the Danish Government. Mr. Wareham was a senior executive of the company during the period 1964 – 1981 and actively involved in the successful growth and development of the company from piston to turbo prop to larger jet aircraft.

In 1981, in association with CDC Ventures Inc., he formed Atlantis Corporation Limited, an investment holding company taking investments in various sectors of the regional economies. He was the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Air Nova, having helped guide it from inception to a very successful regional airline before selling control to Air Canada in 1991. Atlantis has held investments in the high tech industry, the crab fishery, as well as the development of the stimpson surf clam fishery on the Grand Banks and canadianized one of two tuna licences issued for the Canadian East Coast.

Mr. Wareham has held various outside directorships including Newfoundland Power, Fortis Trust, Fishery Products Limited, Newfoundland Liquor Corporation, Newfoundland and Labrador Development Corporation, Atlas Gest Inc., Air Transport Association of Canada, Canadian Commercial Corporation and has been a member of the Board of Regents of Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN) and for many years a Member of the Advisory Board of the MUN School of Business. He currently serves as a Director of the Newfoundland Chamber of Mineral Resources.

As Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Atlantis Corporation, Mr. Wareham is actively involved in its investment portfolio, presently acting as President and CEO of junior mining companies New Island Resources Inc. and Newfoundland Goldbar Resources Inc. and of Atlantis Marine Inc., a nutritional foods enterprise.
